FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation & region will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has more bean yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also influences a significant part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee usually keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different regions can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when buying beans.
