FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country and region will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the different regions are be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when buying coffee beans.
