FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and location will make a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a significant role in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the various regions are be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
