FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country and area will produce a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher bean yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the flavour profile of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change every aspect of the roasting process to make different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various areas are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying beans.
