FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & region will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, most people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different types and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional things that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various locations can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when buying coffee.
