FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & location will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica as it is less bitter and shows a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roast process to develop different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee usually retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
