FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & region will result in a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit superior flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roast process to develop different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans will keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
