FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & region will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional factors that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying beans.
