FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation & area will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica as it is less bitter and shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roast process to make different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other things that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans typcially keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
