FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and location will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people would rather drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee usually keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the various regions are be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
