FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and area will produce a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to consume Arabica as it is less bitter and has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other things that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
