FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country and area will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and shows a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Combining different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying beans.
