FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation & area will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee.
