FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country & area will result in a different taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roast process to craft different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
