FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and region will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people would rather drink Arabica as it is less bitter & has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing beans.
