FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation and area will result in a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica as it is less bitter & has a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roasting process to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various locations can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
