FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country & region will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter and has a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant part in the flavour profile of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the beans from the different locations are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when purchasing beans.
