FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation & region will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roasting process to make different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional conditions that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various locations are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing beans.
