FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country & region will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, commonly people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional things that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various locations can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee beans.
