FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & region will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has more bean yield and is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roasting process to craft different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted beans usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when buying beans.
