FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation and region will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to have Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has more fruit yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans usually keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different areas are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
