FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and area will make a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people prefer to have Arabica as it is not as bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour profile of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different regions can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee.
