FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & region will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter and displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roasting process to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional conditions that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
