FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & region will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica as it is less bitter and shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast process to develop different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other conditions that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee typcially keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different locations are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when buying coffee beans.
