FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and region will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Combining different types & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roasting process to craft different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
