FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country & location will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit superior flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major part in the taste profile of the beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roast process to craft different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted beans typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
