FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation and area will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have nicerbetter taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to have Arabica as it is less bitter & shows a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Mixing different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roast process to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans will retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various locations are be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
