FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and location will result in a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people would rather consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a major part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans will keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
