FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and area will make a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the different areas are be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing beans.
