FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & area will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people would rather drink Arabica because it is less bitter and displays a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roasting process to make different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional things that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing beans.
