FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & area will make a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people would rather consume Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is more resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional aspects that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans typcially keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
