FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country & area will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other things that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee usually keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the various regions are be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee.
