FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country & location will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, commonly people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to make different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different regions can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying beans.
