FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & location will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different regions are be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
