FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation & area will produce a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast process to develop different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the various areas are be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing beans.
