FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & area will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica as it is less bitter & exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee.
