FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country and area will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people would rather consume Arabica because it is not as bitter and displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant role in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
