FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and area will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing beans.
