FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation and location will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter and exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also plays a major part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other aspects that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee will keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the various regions can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
