FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & location will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & has a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Mixing different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans typcially keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various regions can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
