FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country and location will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & displays a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the flavour profile of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different locations are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when buying coffee.
