Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is better resistant to pests.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast process to develop different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans will keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various locations are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee.
