FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country and location will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter and shows a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other things that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans usually keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the various locations can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
