FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country and area will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter and shows a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing beans.
