FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & location will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people would rather have Arabica as it is less bitter and shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roast proceedure to make different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the various locations can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing beans.
