FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation and area will result in a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people would rather drink Arabica as it is less bitter & displays a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a major part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other things that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans typcially keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
