FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country and region will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and has a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also influences a significant role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roasting process to develop different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other things that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing beans.
