FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation & location will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a significant role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roasting process to make different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the various locations are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
