FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation and region will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater bean yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a significant role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of beans. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
