FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and area will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people prefer to consume Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to think about when buying coffee beans.
